Judging

Preliminary Round ~ Judges will be: PRO members, published authors, or Golden Heart finalist/winners.

Final Round ~ Finalists will be judged by editors and agents. And there's still more. . .finalists will also receive a private appointment with an editor or agent at the Emerald City Writers' Conference happening October 1-3, 2010 at the Bellevue Hilton.

Submit young adult or erotic entries in the best fitting category.

Qualifications

Open to unpublished writers -- RWA and non-RWA -- who have not accepted a publishing offer from a non-Subsidy, non-Vanity Publisher for a novel or novella by the contest entry deadline. Previous finalists of this contest may not re-enter finalist entries, even in an edited format.

Here are the nitty gritty details to enter:

~ Entries MUST be submitted electronically by midnight (PDT), June 1, 2010.
~ Entry fee is $12 for GSRWA members and $20 for non-members. Checks, Money Orders and PayPal accepted.

Contest Rules

EACH entry must include:

  • The first seven (7) pages of your manuscript (Microsoft Word files only - PC or MAC), submitted electronically as an attachment forwarded with the Emerald City Opener Entry confirmation email to contest@gsrwa.org.
  • Entry Fees of $12.00 (GSRWA members) or $20.00 (non-members) per entry, in U.S. Funds, can be sent by PayPal to treasurer@gsrwa.org or by check or money order made payable to Greater Seattle Chapter, RWA, can be mailed to:

Entry Requirements:

  • Follow editor-submission format: double-spaced with one-inch margins, 25-27 lines/page, 12-point font (we suggest Courier, New Courier or Times New Roman). No script fonts.
  • Include the title of the entry and sequential page number in the manuscript header. DO NOT put your name on manuscript pages.
  • Limit two (2) entries per person. Each entry must be e-submitted separately.
  • Failure to comply with these requirements will result in disqualification.

Deadline:

Entries and payments must be received (first seven pages of manuscript e-received) by midnight (PDT), June 1, 2010.

You will receive an automatic email confirmation for each entry after completing the online submission form.

Special Note

If an entry is disqualified for any reason (such as it is clearly not romance fiction or a novel with strong romantic elements, does not fit the contest categories, is improperly formatted, etc.), the entry fee will not be returned to the contestant.
