Synopsis

Compiled by Jen Heaton, a.k.a. Caroline Cross (1995)

A synopsis is a brief, narrative summary of your story, including the beginning, middle and end.  Its focus is on the main plot and the principle characters, their conflict and its resolution.  It is double-spaced, generally ranging in length from two to twenty-five pages, depending on the type of book and the publishing house for which it's intended.  Since your synopsis is often the first thing an editor reads, it's important not to forget to make it as gripping and well-written as possible.
