Rejections

Compiled by Lee Undsderfer, a.k.a. Adrianne Lee (1995)

Rejections are when a publisher returns your query letter, proposal, or manuscript.  Usually this is accompanied by some kind of postcard or letter.  Often the rejection is an impersonal form letter which states that your work is not right for their line and wishes you luck in placing it elsewhere.  Sometimes a writer gets lucky and receives a personalized rejection in which the editor gives a specific reason for the rejection.  Even published authors get rejections, even form rejections.  All rejection hurts.  Go ahead and cry.  Then brush off your ego and send your work out again.  What one editor doesn't like, another may love.
